Jade Bird Shines ‘Different Kinds of Light’ On Her Upcoming Album And Its Title Track

English singer-songwriter Jade Bird has teased the title track for her highly anticipated sophomore album Different Kinds of Light. It’s the fourth single from her upcoming album, following on from the recently released ‘Headstart’, ‘Houdini’ and ‘Open Up The Heavens’.

Two years on from her self-titled debut album, Different Kinds of Light showcases the evolution of Bird’s maturity in songwriting. Beginning in Japan, and being developed back at home in the UK as well as abroad in Mexico and New York, the album combines a host of influences and experiences from the blossoming singer-songwriter’s life and early career.

Bird was “adding pieces of songs along the way until it became the different phases of who I am, what my relationship is and what my relationship to other people has become.”

She added, “It’s been a big exploration through evenings and mornings spent under strange skies. With ‘Different Kinds of Light’ came different kinds of clarity in my life.”

The album’s title track is a bit more delicate than the rest of Bird’s recent offerings, leaning more towards an indie folk sound as opposed to the pop/rock of the previous singles. It results in a more intimate album cut that is befitting of its status as the album’s title track.

“‘Different Kinds of Light’ at its most basic is about falling in love, and at its most complex [is about] the chaos of trying to get away from your past,” Bird said.

“I think this is the best thing I’ve ever made and I’m beyond excited to share it with you,” she stated on social media. “I love you all so much, thanks for being here, it’s going to be quite the ride 💖”

Different Kinds of Light will be released on August 13 via Glassnote Records.
