KATANAK is back to tickle our earholes, and this time they're bringing a whole punch-bowl of party rocking guitar to back up Dylan Cattanach's crooning vocals.
'Pinch Grip' showcases an evolution from KATANAK's patented smooth & groovy sound, into a grittier guitar-driven beat bonanza. Contrasting his last release - the beautiful duet, 'Sunday' with Joolz - this latest track explores a much more visceral dimension, harking back to classic pop-punk days when Fall Out Boy and Paramore fused crunchy guitar-riff granola with honeyed vocals and ruled the airwaves.
This release comes hot off the heels of KATANAK winning the prestigious QUBE Effect Prize, with the winner granted the opportunity to record & mix a single with ARIA award-winning record producer Dr Lachlan 'Magoo' Goold. 'Pinch Grip' is the love-child of this legendary alliance, and you can really hear the incredible depth and quality of sound production when you listen to the fruit of their labour.
"I wrote Pinch Grip after watching a friend fall under the spell of someone who wouldn’t commit to a relationship but wasn’t willing to let them go. The nature of the relationship was compelling from an outsider's point of view and the guitar driven track emphasises the backwards and forwards of the key players. Pinch Grip is a favourite for the crowd and to play live at my gigs. I’ve got this awesome guitar intro that is dirty, throbbing and just sets the tone. It’s just a lot of fun with energy to burn." - says KATANAK
