LivewireAU Six Pack: My Dream Indie Movie Soundtrack

Updated: Jun 20

Heart Attack – ALBII

Calling all the introverts, ALBII has your new anthem in ‘Heart Attack’. This is the sophomore single from the Bundjalung Land (Gold Coast) based artist, and is enjoyed best with high volume and headphones whilst watching everyone you know having fun through their Instagram stories. ALBII’s Gen Z perspective and honest lyricism pair effortlessly with a dark pop sonic atmosphere to create the soundtrack for every quick exit out of a crowded room.

For fans of: Billie Eilish, Benee, Total Tommy

Big Ol’ Hammer – G Flip

There’s no denying that G Flip is one of the biggest musicians to come out of Australia in the past decade, and their new music and 80’s inspired era proves that there’s no stopping the Naarm (Melbourne) born drummer. With a steamy Grease inspired music video and campy take on traditional views of masculinity, G Flip’s new single ‘Big Ol’ Hammer’ is ready to smash its way into your heart and playlists this pride month.

For fans of: MAY-A, Beth McCarthy

Gut Punch – Isabel Wood

Isabel Wood is likely the most underrated pop princess in this country. ‘Gut Punch’ could definitely be played in sold out stadiums to a legion of dedicated fans, with lyrical swings in the chorus that are designed to be sung out loud. Taking a punch at those toxic people and the mad women rhetoric, Isabel Wood reclaims her power through this slice of pop perfection.

For fans of: Olivia Rodrigo, Tate McRae, Holly Hebe

Beyond – BB Sabina

Naarm (Melbourne) based trio BB Sabina are back with ‘Beyond’, a sonic transcendence that dives into a deeper relationship with belonging and existence in a creative realm. ‘Beyond’ evokes a film scene with vivid lighting and lens flares, with its genre-defying nature and intentional distortion emulating moments of mystical happenings, almost as if soundtracking the moment that Alice fell down the rabbit hole.

For fans of: Sonic Youth, PJ Harvey, The Jesus and Mary Chain

LAST MAN STANDING - Blusher

If there was a Barbie movie about sports, ‘LAST MAN STANDING’ by Aussie pop darlings Blusher would be playing in the end credits. With a high energy pre-chorus chant, a shiny bubblegum pop sonic façade, and a key change sent from heaven, this is my official nomination for Blusher to soundtrack the 2032 Brisbane Olympics!

For fans of: Haim, Marina and the Diamonds, The Beaches

Caught in a lie – Poppy Isabelle

This is the debut single from Meanjin’s (Brisbane) very own Poppy Isabelle, from the indie darling band Elsewhere. ‘Caught in a lie’ blends the iconic 2000’s ballad style songwriting and vocals with modern day electronica to create a truly ethereal genre-defying release. This track feels like the build up before the film’s climax, where the protagonist gets pushed down for the final time before breaking free from the shackles of their old life.

For fans of: Raye, Adele, Labrinth
