As fresh faces in the Brisbane scene, Loiter has quite the journey ahead of them. However, the release of their latest single, ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’, shows them coming in with full force, and a determination to put all that they have into their work.
“I wrote the lyrics when I was dating someone that didn't want to commit, but wouldn't let me go,” reveals lead vocalist Amber Hudson. “At the time I was trying to play it cool, even though there were so many red flags and I had questions.”
This single sees co-frontperson, Amber Hudson, charging to the front with powerful and emotive vocals - directing the track with a sense of passion and strength, which of course is only amplified by the intrusively addictive pop-punk instrumentals to back. Through a vulnerability toward the outro, and laced within the lyrics- a discussion of narcissism, the perils of modern-day dating, and the power of liquid courage- this track is a versatile exploration of the themes we all know a little too well, wrapped into an anthemic pop-punk earworm!
“The song is about the uncertainty of modern dating, which I think everyone can relate to on some level. The lyrics are about not knowing where you stand with someone and being too afraid of having hard conversations until you've had some liquid courage. It's also about how dating a narcissist can make you question your reality to the point where you find yourself apologising all the time. I wanted to keep the song fun and playful, because I don't believe in holding on to anger and the experience helped me write something I'm really proud of.”
With an expanded lineup and a list of notable shows such as Greaser’s NYE Party under their belts, Loiter will be hanging around this scene for a while- and with a purpose to create impactful music that is sure to get stuck in your head!
