Q&A - Dear Seattle talks about 'Party In The Paddock'

Updated: Nov 13, 2019

The line-up is now officially announced and tickets are on sale for Tasmania’s fave boutique music festival, Party In The Paddock. Kicking up the hay bales from 6th-8th February 2020.

We caught up with Dear Seattle ahead of their appearance at the festival to chat Tassie, Like A Version and hidden talents.

Dear Seattle at BeerIn Cider 2019

Who are you most excited to catch at Party in the Paddock?

I'm always excited whenever I see Matt Corby on a lineup - the guy is too talented! But also Lime Cordiale, I Know Leopard, Dune Rats, Cosmo's Midnight, Ro, Bakers Eddy and Press Club would be some top hitters.

You recently stopped by Launceston for another festival. Any recommendations as to any tourist things to check out?

The weather wasn't great when we were down so we didn't get to catch much! However the Cataract Gorge was a nice place for a cruisy walk if you wanna stretch the legs.

If you got the call up to come in this Friday and do Like A Version again, which song would you choose?

Oh great question! Far out. I reckon maybe Everlong by Foo Fighters, 1979 by Smashing Pumpkins or Unwritten by Natalie Imbruglia.

Of the artists on the lineup, do you plan to include any in your Hottest 100 votes?

Yeah I reckon so! Two of the best songs this year have been No Plans by Dunies and Robbery by Lime Cordiale, so they may cop a vote!

Do you have an ‘on tour’ playlist? If so, what songs are on it?
Not really to be honest! Just a bunch of bands we always listen to at some point like Turnstile, Oasis, Rage Against The Machine, Title Fight, Culture Abuse and Smashing Pumpkins.

How did the name ‘Dear Seattle’ come about?

I actually used to live there as a kid! So it's a bit of an ode to simpler times, looking back fondly on childhood and reminiscing on memories.

Did you each have a favourite line from one of your songs? If so, what is it?

Brae & Jeremy - "I don't mind if I feel frightened now, cos I know you're holding me through all this fear I've found." (I Keep Dreaming)
Josh - "I can't get by if you don't try" (Try)
Simmo - "Keep smoking bongs" (When I'm Gone)

The festival happens fresh in the New Year. Rather than New Years Resolutions that you would want to change, what is something that you guys hope to keep exactly the same in 2020?

Being free to do things the way we like to do them as a band. We've built an amazing team round us that really values who we are and what we're trying to achieve as artists, and for us that's the most supportive and inspiring thing to have!

Does anyone have a hidden talent? If so, what is it?

Jeremy posts great solo bass Korn covers on his Instagram story.

If you weren’t in music, what would you guys be doing?

Paying rent on time.
