We've got a sickness for the thickness—Supathick are back with their slick new single 'Time'. Featuring the sultry guest vocals of Keely Brittain, this latest offering from the Perth group is an irresistibly smooth piece of disco-funk. Supathick are the five-piece that are taking the West Coast by storm, with their fusion of neo-soul, R&B, disco, pop and all things funky. Consisting of members of Perth bands Demon Days, Wooly Mammoth and Almond Soy, there's no shortage of experience in the band's lineup, and there's certainly no shortage of talent either. With just a small sample of releases to date—the band just released their debut EP Dinner and a Film in August 2020—they've already covered more genre territory than many bands will in a lifetime, and they've enlisted a host of collaborators along the way. Saskia Brittain (Dulcie), Leah McFetridge, Your Girl Pho and Adrian Dzvuke are just some of the names that have taken the reins of vocals on a Supathick track. But this 'Time' around it's Saskia's sister Keely Brittain who delivers pristine vocals over smooth Supathick instrumentals. Sam Ford (POND, Abbe May) is also enlisted as a collaborator on the production front, with the song being recorded at his Tone City studio in Scarborough, WA.
The track's origins date back to 2019, as the brainchild of guitarist and primary songwriter Christian Zappia. "I think the song can be interpreted a few ways, but I always come back to the different feelings you can go through when you really have to wait for someone - even if you don’t realise you’re waiting for them," says Zappia on the single. The release of 'Time' comes as the band is a few legs into their countrywide tour supporting fellow WA royalty Great Gable. Most of the East Coast dates have passed, but locals of Brisbane and Byron Bay are still able to catch Supathick in all their thickness live, and they'll be heading back home for several dates around WA in mid-June. “We’ll be hitting the road this Autumn, and the fact that we get to do so supporting our mates Great Gable in this climate makes it all the sweeter," says the band. "We can’t wait to get onto some east coast stages, hopefully everyone’s ready to get down with the Thickness.”
