In this new instalment of our Underground Release series, we take a look at indie rockers from Sydney, Goons, who have just released the infectious ‘Bella’.

Goons are relatively new to the music scene having formed in late 2019. According to the band’s bio, Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party and The Strokes all serve as influences both sonically and lyrically. Along with ‘Bella’, the band have one other single ‘Homerun’, which was released earlier in the year.

The influences are certainly present on ‘Bella’. The guitar melodies are reminiscent of The Strokes from their Is this It? era. Meanwhile, the vocals tend the fine line of being brash and blasé expertly which gives the band a sense of individuality. There’s a great quality to how all the elements come together.

While the inspiration is clear, Goons have found a way to bridge the gap between indie and garage rock. ‘Bella’ is a rocking track that feels it needs to be heard live to be experienced properly.

Having already performed at various venues as well as snagging their first festival appearance, Goons certainly have started their journey into the musical landscape with a big splash. If you’re a fan of any of the aforementioned artists, Goons is definitely an underground artist you can’t afford to miss out on.
