If 2020 as a year has taught us anything: it's to expect the unexpected. However, some things are just so unexpected they can't even be fathomed... Move over Mariah Carey and Michael Bublé - we have a new Christmas album champion contender in the form of our homegrown and beloved Kingswood. It’s time to get your fruit mince pies and gingerbread houses ready to celebrate Christmas in a funky fresh new way. After the absolutely massive year that 2020 has been, everyone is in dire need of some community seasonal spirit, and A Kingswood Christmas is bound to bring festivity, fun and hopefulness to close out the year in a jolly manner.
The album features 12 Christmas favourites, which Kingswood take on in their own unique way, putting an indie rock spin on golden oldies from the likes of Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald, and Nat King Cole.
“With a deep love of the many and varied Jazz-eras and the show-tune stylings of big bands that shaped American and furthermore, western global musical trends for some decades, our fascinations with the classic inspired interpretations on Christmas standards have long been celebrated throughout the years of Kingswood.”
Just releasing a classic Christmas album isn’t enough for these blokes either. In an aim to keep spirits high and ease the troubles that people may face over this period, all profits from the album will be generously donated to Beyond Blue, an organisation close to the bands heart. Partnering up with the Coronavirus Mental Wellbeing Support Service, the band recognises that over Christmas may be a difficult time for people, especially after the mass unprecedented difficulties this year has brought along. This heartwarming gesture truly shows Christmas spirit - of giving the world a great album, and also donation of proceeds.
Luckily for you, the album will be available from Friday, 27 November, just in time to start decorating trees with tinsel and baubles, and devouring those chocolate advent calendars. This album will definitely be one to soundtrack this December, from riding around in a car, windows down, looking at all the best Christmas light displays in your local area, to even possibly getting a spin on the coveted Coles/ Woolies Christmas songs playlist to accompany your grocery shopping for vegan alternatives to turducken.
