It’s ‘Hard To Be Alone’ Without The Music of Good Lekker

We all go a little crazy sometimes… and for the synth-pop band Good Lekker, that’s perfectly okay. Their latest single ‘Hard to be Alone’ spirals into a 3-minute collage of synth, thumping bass, and vivid guitars.

Reminiscent of an 80’s arcade game, the start of the song opens with a pouncing synth melody. Then hold your breath for a verse soaked in groove.

“I’ve learnt I should surrender when it looks like things will end up decaying in two.”

Damn, that's a step deeper than most indie/dance groups would be expected. It seems singer Alex Gray isn't afraid to dive into self-honesty when stating,

“The video is toying on the instabilities that many relationships have. It does this by having the protagonist going slightly crazy throughout the video. He is stuck in his own head and the real world.”

In contrast to these lyrics, the track is anything but melancholy. Simply put, it's the sort of beat that makes you want to move. Chase up that gym membership, smash out a run, or if brave enough strut some extremely distasteful dancing.

Concluding with a blasting marriage of guitar solo's and synth as well as a chanting last hurrah of the chorus. Abruptly the song concludes much like it had begun ending on a final defiant, ‘It's hard to be alone with you.” Ouch, that's gotta hurt for whoever this is directed at.

‘Lekker,’ being the Afrikaans word of good, this song certainly lives up to the promise of the band’s name. Good Lekker aren't afraid to spin a new record on the sound of synth-pop, certainly having grabbed the listeners attention. So dust off the Nikes and just do it because this is definitely a tune to get sh*t done.
