LIVE REVIEW: Hiatus Kaiyote @ Fortitude Music Hall



Hiatus Kaiyote's "Love Heart Cheat Code" tour was a mesmerizing showcase of the Australian neo-soul quartet's genre-defying sound. Known for blending elements of R&B, jazz, and experimental music, the band’s live show was an immersive experience that had the audience captivated from start to finish.

The setlist was a perfect blend of fan favorites and new tracks from their latest album, Love Heart Cheat Code. Highlights included the dreamy, smooth rhythms of “Dreamboat” and “Telescope,” as well as the funky grooves of “Get Sun.” The band also played a number of songs from their earlier albums, including the deeply soulful “Chivalry Is Not Dead” and the atmospheric “By Fire.” Tracks like “Red Room” and “Everything’s Beautiful” demonstrated their ability to seamlessly transition between experimental and emotionally resonant styles. The crowd responded enthusiastically to each track, singing along and dancing to the intricate rhythms and melodies that have become a trademark of Hiatus Kaiyote's sound.


Nai Palm, the band’s enigmatic frontperson, delivered an extraordinary vocal performance that left a lasting impression. Her voice soared effortlessly through the complex harmonies, with an emotive quality that had the audience hanging on every note. The interplay between Palm's ethereal vocals and the band's tight instrumentation was a testament to their meticulous attention to detail. Guitarist Paul Bender, bassist Perrin Moss, and keyboardist Simon Mavin all brought their unique styles to the stage, creating a rich sonic texture that was both experimental and accessible.


The audience at Fortitude Music Hall seemed to connect deeply with the performance. Their energy was palpable, with cheers and applause echoing after each song.
