There’s nothing like a dream pop love song to take you to another world. Queensland-based indie-pop star, LT, has returned with a new single in ‘Hold Ya’. It marks LT’s return to the Australian music scene in 2021 and proves once again why the acclaimed singer-songwriter holds her own in a competitive industry.
When asked about the inspiration behind the track, LT said:
“Hold Ya was written during a pretty turbulent time … [i]t's a story about two people in love, however through the struggles they've endured they begin to drift apart. Neither of them want to leave, but both of them are desperately seeking reassurance that the other wants them to in fact stay and it turns out they both do.”
The narrative of passionate love that runs throughout the song is prevalent in its production. Brass instruments play alongside the plucks of guitar strings while an ethereal airy sound plays softly in the background. The song's beat drop and accompanying beats inject grounds the track with a fullness. Meanwhile, hand claps keep the timing and rhythm of the track’s production as if they themselves are the hearts of the lovers LT is singing about. Together, it all creates a heartfelt backdrop for LT’s vocals. They’re crystal clear but also have a mistiness to them. It’s the perfect combination to capture the earnestness of the song’s lyrics at all times. ‘All I want / all I want is you to say / I’ll hold ya, I’ll hold ya, I’ll hold ya,’ LT sings, her voice taking on a songbird quality that is beautiful to hear.
Once again, LT has knocked it out of the park. ‘Hold Ya’ is a welcome addition to the singer-songwriter’s already impressive catalogue of hits. We also recommend that you check out the retro-filtered music video. Filmed and edited by Chelsey Johnston, the track’s music video perfectly captures the warmth of love in different forms.
