Brisbane indie-rock goddess Evangie is just 20 years old, but boasts enough raw talent that’d make you think she’s been on the scene for years. Having recently reached #3 on the Triple J Unearthed charts and #1 on the Indie and Rock charts, she was also featured during one of this year's BIGSOUND emerging artist showcases. We know, what an impressive resume already.
Filled with emotion and packed full of angst, Evangie fearlessly channels emotion into her music, and her debut release ‘Japan’ encapsulates this beautifully.
‘Japan’ is as intense as it is haunting, taking the listener on a journey from start to finish and transporting us into Evangie’s lush soundscape. From warbling electric guitar melodies over crooning vocals and gentle drums, the song then crescendos into an all-consuming concoction of heavy guitar solos, crashing drums and pure emotion.
If a first single is anything to go by, Evangie is set to make her mark on the indie-rock scene at skyrocketing speed. Joined by her four-piece band, ‘Japan’ creates an atmosphere of longing and heartache, before reeling it right back in again and throwing it in your face. It explores the topic of loneliness and in turn finding comfort in being alone, all whilst backed by grungy sounds and soaring energy.
A huge debut from someone with a huge future. It’s Evangie’s world, we’re just living in it.
