Neo-soul goddesses, Pink Matter have just released their first single of 2019,‘Wonder’.
This track will send you into a kaleidoscopic trance. A vanguard of the neo-soul movement, the Brisbane four-piece bring a nostalgic twist of disco and jazz to the mix - with vocals that make you feel like you've stumbled into an underground speakeasy. Pink Matter nods to contemporaries like Hiatus Kaiyote, The Internet and Koi Child, placing this band on the precipice of the modern soul revival.
Working with music producer Harvey Sutherland on this latest single has seen the band infuse some electronic elements while still holding true to their instrumental roots.
'We’re really happy with the end product because we’ve used a lot of sounds and effects that are new and different for us, but our style as a band and our songwriting still shines through. We struggle to put Wonder in a box to label it/ describe it to people, and we like that about it because then people can fill in the gaps and take what they want from it.'
With rich soulful vocals, a clever use of syncopation in the drumline and fun synthy textures, these ladies will make you want to groove well into the night.
