Selve are on a history making mission with their sophomore album release, Breaking Into Heaven, out on all platforms and available on vinyl now! Forever ingraining their mark in rock'n'roll history, Breaking Into Heaven is the first full-length album by an Aboriginal artist to be recorded at Abbey Road Studios, standing as a powerful testament of First Nations culture and stories rightfully reclaiming space in the rooms that have been riddled with exclusion throughout time. Breaking Into Heaven is anchored around a powerful quote from Nina Simone -"The people who built their heaven on your land, are telling you that yours is in the sky" - with recurring themes of heaven and celebrity prominent throughout the 13 track run.

This album has something for everyone, taking audiences on a journey through fame and chaos, lowlights and emotional tenderness, rage and resistance, and all that lingers in-between. With a soundtrack drawing on elements of punk, indie-pop, rave-rock, and a handful of vulnerable ballads, Breaking Into Heaven is a sonic marvel. Standout singles introduced audiences into the realm of Selve's Cinematic Universe (dubbed the 'SCU') through masterful music videos made in collaboration with Joshua Tate, establishing a running theme through videos for 'Breaking Into Heaven', 'Loki Horror Picture Show', 'Strange Romance', and album lead single 'Leading Man Lost'.

An album that will easily be considered an Australian classic in the coming years, Breaking Into Heaven transcends traditional binaries that have been thrust upon First Nations music, rock music, and Australian indie bands. Selve are forging a new path through the modern music industry whilst bringing a strong dosage of First Nations history with them, with the group's lead Loki Liddle sharing that "This album does not exist without the legacy of incredible First Nations artists who have come before me so that I can lay my small stone in the path for generations to come".

I was lucky enough to experience this album live in full at HOTA at a sold-out performance with the 33 piece Australian Session Orchestra, and can simply say that this night blew my mind. Breaking Into Heaven is an audible and visual marvel on its own, but the live performance elevates this magic to a whole new level. Selve currently have a run of headline shows, support slots, and festivals booked for the remainder of this year, with tickets available here. Majority of these tour dates are free entry, so make sure to sign up for info and I'll join you front row as you witness the show of your lives!
