The rising queen of indie-pop who has recently been dominating our radio waves is back with a brand-new, vibrant earworm titled, ‘My Ways’. Brisbane-based, Sycco, is no stranger to funky beats and vibrant melodies, but even the most positive and upbeat artists still wrestled with the challenges of the pandemic, and the lockdown that saw many artists struggle financially, emotionally- and creatively.
Through its shifting beats and contrasting vocals, from soft and refined, to piercing, Sycco delves into the confusing and alienating world of lockdown, but more directly, a case of lockdown brain - Sycco touches on the ramifications of isolation, and a loss of freedom- both physically and creatively.
Thetrack, however, proves lockdown holds no bounds for some, with Sycco creating one heartily catchy single. ‘My Ways’ was largely influenced by the production and co-writing of producer Jeff Hazin (Renforshort, Anna Sofia), a collaboration that took place over everyone's lockdown necessity - zoom.
"Jeff and I met on Zoom during lockdown in 2020 and it was my first ever Zoom session so I had no idea what to expect. Jeff and I instantly clicked and it all came together super fast. 'My Ways' is all about losing track of days, getting caught up in your monkey brain and wanting out of it. This song definitely encapsulates my lockdown." - Sycco
Breaking out of the breakout room (have we all had enough of Zoom puns?), Sycco announced her first-ever national tour. The shows, comprising of 12 shows in three cities, sold out in less than 24 hours. However, a few final tickets can still be snagged up for the extended dates!
