Australian electronic legends, The Avalanches have today released their new single ‘Interstellar Love’ featuring the Grammy Award winning soulster Leon Bridges. The new track is from their forthcoming album ‘We Will Always Love You’ which is set to drop on Friday 11 December, 2020.
‘Interstellar Love’ is escapism at its finest - slowly building in intensity and taking the listener on an ethereal adventure that is simultaneously dreamy and angelic. The track evokes feelings of peace and wonder, making you feel as if you’re drifting through an interstellar galaxy yourself.
The Avalanches are best known for using samples throughout their music, which they chop and mix to create their own unique blend of sounds. And ‘Interstellar Love’ is no exception, sampling the iconic 1982 track ‘Eye In The Sky’ by The Alan Parsons Project and utilising Leon Bridges’ honey-soaked vocals to add a warm glow to the track.
Robbie Chater from The Avalanches has always wanted to collaborate with Bridges, saying: “Leon is an incredible singer, with just the most beautiful voice. He’s from Texas but we both happened to be in LA at the same time, which was lucky as he was on my all-time wish list. When we were in the studio, I told him the story about Ann Druyan and Carl Sagan and how her love-struck brain waves were sent out into space on the Voyager’s Golden Record. And this song came out of that.”
Of The Avalanches upcoming album, bandmates Robbie Chater, Tony DiBlasi and Andrew Szekeres describe the body of work as “an exploration of the human voice”, exploring the big questions of “who are we really? And what happens when we die?”. The album will feature the likes of Blood Orange, Rivers Cuomo, Pink Siifu, Jamie xx, CLYPSO, Denzel Curry, Tricky, Neneh Cherry, Sampa the Great, Sananda Maitreya and Vashti Bunyan, with many more yet to be revealed.
‘Interstellar Love’ is uplifting, thought-provoking and hazy. It’s the sort of song that can be listened to absentmindedly or in deep reflection. Whatever feelings it evokes for you, one thing that’s certain is that it’s an electro-pop supernova that’s will leave you pressing that repeat button.
