The latest single from Melbourne-based singer-songwriter G Flip is a sentimental ode to a past relationship.
Fresh off the back of an all-conquering 2019, in which she released her debut album and scored four songs in the Triple J Hottest 100, 'You & I' is her second single release of the year. It's an emotional pop number with an absolutely soaring chorus.
It follows on from 'Hyperfine', which dropped earlier in the year, and its remix featuring US up-and-comer LoveLeo. She's also been busy with a few other projects this year, including her Triple J Like A Version appearance and collaborating with rapper Illy on the song 'Loose Ends'.
It's been quite the rise to fame for G Flip, having only released her debut single 'About You' just over two years ago. But in the midst of all this success there has been some significant personal struggles for the talented multi-instrumentalist.
Speaking of her latest single, she says "It’s extremely bittersweet as I wrote this song when I was crazy in love and I’m currently healing from a break up."
But despite the heartache, 'You & I' looks back at the relationship in a positive light. "It’s about being able to look at someone and the whole world just becomes background noise to your epic love story and it feels like it’s only you and that other person standing on the planet," says G Flip. "It’s a highlight reel of beautiful moments to me."
And it's a beautiful highlight reel too. She reveals that it's her mum's favourite song - and I'm sure it'll be a favourite of many others as well.
